RELAX and RECHARGE
- Just by planning a vacation you start to reap the benefits
- Plan at least three weeks in advance.
- Pick a low-key destination when you want to really wind down
- Take time for yourself ;
- Tune into your natural rhythm
- Be mindful that renting a house (lake or mountain) may require some cooking and cleaning
- Schedule sightseeing so it won’t wear you out.
- Do activities in AM or PM
- Plan downtime the rest of the day
- Enjoy the sites every other day
- It’s about Quality
- There is evidence that the longer the trip the more thorough rest, but it really boils down to the Quality
- Savor the moment
- Foster connections with your traveling companions
- Do things you would not normally do
- Taking pictures
- you brain dumps the ‘memory’ into the camera – so the event, scene, people are more difficult to be recalled
- Social media while on vacation. You are going on a vacation, not your followers.
- Save your postings for when you return
- Your home, auto, etc are safer that was too.
- Leave work behind – if you can
- If you can’t check emails in the morning and around lunch time
- Unplug the rest of the time (from emails, business related texts, etc)
- What to do when things go wrong?
- Practice acceptance
- Look at others, and yourself with compassion
- Make a conscious effort to release your expectations
- Be flexible and open to whatever happens
- Vacations can increase your productive once you have returned to work.
- Your creative brain comes alive during vacation
- It draws connections between things it had not previously connected
- That ‘aha’ moment could happen to you
- Work reentry
- Avoid attempting to extend your stay by taking a late and hellish trip home
- Returning early and slowly readjusting to reality is less jarring
- Try to avoid setting meetings your first day back at work
- Give yourself time to get back into the swing of things
